France, Europe and Beyond, what makes the perfect painting destination?
Have you dreamed about painting abroad, but are not sure where to go? We’ve been running painting holidays and workshops in France, Europe and beyond since 2015. And, along the way we’ve learned a thing or two about what makes a top painting destination. A small group, a magnificent views, a shady trees to sit under, the perfect places to take a break for lunch.
Our holidays are all about us sharing our favourite painting destinations with you. These are places that we know well, where we have spent time seeking out the most beautiful locations to inspire you. All of our holidays are designed to bring out your inner artist. And, under Simon’s easy going teaching to style help you reach your full creative potential.
1. France
As we started our painting holidays in France where we live, of course this has to be our number 1. It’s easy to see why the south of France has been a hot favourite location for artists through the eras. Its beautiful villages and landscapes coupled with clear blue skies and fantastic light make this the perfect place to while away a week painting. We’ve been living in the south of France for almost 15 years. Not only do we know all the best locations to inspire you, but we’ll will help you get the most out of your time here. 2. Morocco
Or as we like to call it, “the nearest far away land”. History calls to you in Morocco. From its beautiful old Kasbahs, to its ancient walled medinas. This is a country where you can still really step back in time. This is one of our favourite painting destinations. We’ve not only toured the country for a month on our motorbike as well as spent several holidays here over the years. But, have also now run two successful painting holidays here. Our 10-day painting holiday in Morocco takes you from Marrakech, to the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, and on to Essaouira on the Atlantic coast. You will have the opportunity to paint a mix of landscapes, mosques, beautiful gardens and seascapes. All under the patient guidance of your tutor Simon. 3. Croatia
How about a painting holiday in Croatia? Bring the islands of Croatia to life with your paintbrush. Over the period of 9 days, we’ll make our way from Split to Dubrovnik, stopping on Korčula island along the way. The perfect taster of the island life of Croatia. After a fantastic exploratory trip in 2024 to finalise all the locations for this 9 day trip, in 2025 you will be able to join us on this fantastic holiday. Our locations on this trip are a wonderful mix of history, reaching back to the Roman Era. To, the pristine coastal landscapes that Croatia is famed for. 4. Costa Brava – Spain
You will find the Costa Brava on the North East Mediterranean coast of Spain, and it is one of our favourite painting destinations in Europe. It’s a short hop from where we live, so we’ve been spending time here for year.s As a result, we know all the best locations. Hidden little fishing coves, beautifully preserved medieval villages. This rugged coast line is a painting gem. No high rises in sight, just picture-perfect towns and villages that will inspire the travelling artist within. Our 7 day holiday in this perfect location, blends the beauty of Mediterranean seascapes as well as landscapes that haven’t changed since the middle ages. 5. Greece
There are just too many beautiful islands to choose from in Greece, and that’s before we have even started to explore the mainland of Greece. From ancient archaeological sites to historic old villages to picturesque coves and beaches. Greece has it all. Simon spent a week leading a holiday on Crete and Santorini both of which are completely different in character and offer the perfect introduction to painting in Greece. From the colourful building of Rethymnon to the typical white Greek architecture of Santorini.
