Liz Adams is an American figurative painter whose luminous, expressive work captures the poetry of everyday life. Originally from Marietta, Georgia, Liz earned her BFA in Drawing and Painting from Georgia State University before continuing her studies at the Art Students League of New York and the National Academy School. Her pursuit of classical technique took her to Florence, Italy, where she studied Renaissance painting with support from the Newington Cropsey Foundation. A Gross Anatomy course at Drexel University further deepened her understanding of the human form. In recognition of her devotion to figurative art, she was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant.
For over a decade, Liz lived and worked in New York City, cultivating a dedicated studio practice and participating in international residencies in New York, Hanoi, Barcelona, and Paris. These journeys enriched both her artistic language and her approach to teaching, creating a foundation of openness and curiosity in her work.
In 2020, she moved to France on a Talent Visa granted for artistic excellence. After some time in Paris, drawn by a longing for warmth and light, she found her way to Nice. The golden hues, open skies, and rhythm of the Mediterranean transformed her palette and practice. What began as a seasonal refuge has become an integral part of her life. She now splits her time between Paris and Nice, moving between their distinct energies—structure and spontaneity, architecture and sea.
Her work has been exhibited in the U.S., Canada, Vietnam, France, and Japan, including a 2024 group show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Tokyo. A devoted teacher, Liz continues to guide students online and in on site workshops, blending classical foundations with a creative sensitivity to the visual world.
